Contact Mic Sound Piece

I made this piece with sounds I captured from a contact mic. I brought in all the sounds into Audacity and chopped/sliced them. After I took all the sounds I wanted I then brought everything into the program Reasons to lay them out and put into sequence. I used a lot of reverb to make the sounds exists in different space/spaces. I wanted the sounds to sound near and far.

Eboman

I came across his work browsing the cycling74 website. What is dope about the clips i seen so far from him is his live sampling and video manipulation which is controlled by his sensor suit.

Exploring Sound

I was recording sound into audacity and my audio source was my hand and vibrating guitar wire making contact with a 1/8" headphone jack causing feedback. The other end of the headphone jack is plugged into my mixer and I had a delay effect put on the feedback. My original plan was to make interesting sounds and cut them out to bring them into another program, which I am still going to do, but what I realized when listening to the recording I made was that it was a improvised piece/composition. I uploaded the file for anybody who wants to listen to it. The file is unedited. I feel like I have to say something to justify that this composition is a legit piece but it is what is.

Ian Curtis

Last night I was watching the JOY DIVISION documentary, which was a great film, and I knew of joy division but never knew the story. After watching it was tragic how things ended up for joy division. What stood out for me though was Ian Curtis's dance. There was something there that was intriguing for me. I was in amazement at how genuine and honest his movements were. In the documentary they described his dances as performance, which i agree with. I think what grabs me about it is how powerful and free it was.

Here is the live performance of "She Lost Control."

Chicago Juke Music

I first heard Juke tracks like a year and half ago and I was not really sure if I liked it. Now I'm starting to dig a little bit more into the music and I am finding some really good tracks. I am trying to understand why like it but I'm not sure. It does tickle something in me that I can not ignore. The Juke dance style is really interesting also. There is something free in the dance I see that makes me enjoy watching it. There is something interesting in these genres of dance/electronic music and the styles of dance that comes with it. I think what is interesting for me is the style are different from state to state and country to country. For example Baltimore Club is not just a Baltimore style of club music. There are other cities also trying to bring that same sound/style to their city. Philly is one of those cities that embraced the Baltimore Club sound/style but do it a little bit different. Even the Philly Club dance style is a little different from Baltimore's. I'm not really sure where I was going with this rant but if I think of anything else I'll put it up later. Here is some vid's.

The first Juke track on this video just does something for me. I like the way it switches up at 1:09 mark of the video.

I thought her Juke dance style/movement was good compared to the other vid's I came across.

This a Baltimore dance style called the Sponge Bob.

Here is a clip with variations of a Philly dance style called the Wu-Tang.

Here is the Charleston & Swing dance to Baltimore club.

Re Purposing

So after thinking about the last class and the idea of taking objects and giving them different purpose has been going through my head. I found these pictures of this guy Uprock by accident when I was looking through flickr. I thought it was good example of Re Purposing and creative way getting a name up.

Reggie Watts

My friend put me onto Reggie Watts. What I like about him is the style and skill he brings. I like that he is having fun and that he is not so serious.

Daito Manabe

Daito Manabe's work is very inspiring to me. I came across these videos when going to his website.
